Jr NBA and Jr WNBA goes to Ateneo de Davao University for its two day event in Davao City, Philippines.
The program continues its search for the best basketball players in the country. Boys and girls join the search for the 10 best boys and 5 best girls who will complete the members of the Jr NBA and Jr WNBA All-Star team. Included is the search for the boys and girls coach who will handle the two teams.
The Jr NBA and Jr WNBA will travel overseas for their NBA experience trip together with fellow Jr NBA and Jr WNBA All-Stars from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. The Jr NBA and Jr WNBA presented by ALASKA is free and open for boys and girls ages 10 – 14 years old (born 2002 to 2006).
The Jr NBA and Jr WNBA presented by ALASKA is one of Alaska Milk’s programs that shape train, challenge and inspire children to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.
Ballers from this side of the country gather as they went through the event registration, vital stats and all the basketball drills prepared for them by the Jr NBA and Jr WNBA Coaches. Young players from almost all schools from the city were here to take part. Looking at them reminds me of my time, it was not like this before. Now NBA just makes it better for these young generation to inspire them to work hard and develop themselves early in sports.
After the registration, all players had their data listed into the stat sheet provided to them. First up was height and wingspan. Everybody was measured and all data was recorded.
Next up was to gather data for their leaping ability. Players are asked to jump straight up and touch the pegs on the pole to measure how high their leap was.
Footwork is a key fundamental in basketball, thus all players went through the footwork test area.
Shooting skills test was surely exciting for the players, this is where most players get recognized immediately. Players were asked to shoot from all designated areas on the court with time pressure. Impressively, the players from Davao didn’t disappoint the coach with their shooting skills.
Coaching was part of the event and yes being coached was one of the most important thing in this event. Players had to listen to what their coaches tell them, in order for them to get better in their game.
Alaska has partnered with Jr NBA and Jr WNBA to have this event. Truly, Alaska has helped every basketball player in the event to take a big step for their hoop dreams. Nurturing the young generation with their product and providing them the means to inspire and ignite their dreams. “Wala pa ring tatalo sa ALASKA!”.
