We bought a 2026 BYD Seal 5 DM-i.
The 2026 BYD Seal 5 DM-i is a plug-in hybrid introduced in Philippines’ market in fourth quarter of 2024. It has an electric engine which is runs via petrol and electricity.
I was on the market for a new car since November of 2023. Been closely looking at a mid-end Mitsubishi Expander and actually applied for one that I had to pull-out of.
Decided to really look seriously when I listed some choices at the final quarter of 2025. Had to set a tight monthly budget for the mortgage, considered size as it has to fit the garage, had to be gas, needed to look decent enough and somehow good fuel consumption. These were just some things I listed to help me narrow done my choices.
Did four test drives for the last four choices that we had.
The last four cars on our list was the following:
Mitsubishi Expander, MG5 Core, Kia Sonet MT and BYD Seal 5 DM-i.
The Decision
The BYD Seal 5 DM-i just made it a no contest after I did the test drive.
It was so quiet. Interior was sleek. Technologically advanced compared to the rest. It was Quick. Lastly, it is the most affordable among the choices.
The BYD Seal 5 had me with its quick acceleration which was listed at 8.9 seconds to 100 KpH, silent drive, interior is probably unmatched by all my choices. Fuel consumption was just a plus.
